Chocolate Bytes: For the Love of Chocolate

Want to Try Some Chocolate Skittles?

by Heather on August 5th, 2008

chocolate skittles

The summer giveaway love continues on!

I’ve been wanting to give away some actual chocolate for the last while but summer and chocolate don’t usually mix too well. So I’m doing the next best thing even though these aren’t actually chocolate, just chocolate flavored! It still counts, right?

Now, I reviewed the new Chocolate Skittles several months ago and while I wasn’t terribly thrilled with them that doesn’t mean you can’t have a shot at them! And hey, they travel well!

To Enter:

To enter, tell me what the weirdest candy or chocolate you’ve ever tried has been. That’s it!

Entries that do not answer the question will not be qualified for the giveaway, so take a minute and give it some thought!

The Rules:

~ One 2oz bag of Chocolate Mix Skittles will be awarded to five commenters.

~ The giveaway will run until 11:59pm Friday, August 8th, and the winners will be chosen at random on Saturday, August 9th.

~ One entry per household. Duplicate/multiple entries from one person will all be discarded. And yes, I do check!

~ Limited to residents of the U.S. as shipping a package of Skittles pretty much anywhere else will cost more than the candy itself! Please also make sure you leave a valid email address so I can contact you if you win.

The weirdest candy I’ve ever had was a candy bar I had on vacation. It was composed of a layer of peanut butter nougat, chocolate covered dried plums and figs, peanuts, cashews, crisped rice, and some sort of jelly-like paste. This was all covered in white chocolate. There was just way to much going on in this bar!

It was lime-flavored rock candy from some candy store in the Poconos in Pennsylvania. One word….yuck!

I hate to say it, but it was my grandmother’s candy. All together, it was a bar mixed with marshmallow, chocolate, caramel, and cherry. The cherry was too overpowering to enjoy the chocolate!!

I’ve had chocolate covered ants. The other “worst” candy would by those round pink mint things. I call them peto bismol tablets, but I don’t know what their real name is.

I must say, the weirdest candy I’ve tried is the Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Jelly Bean, because some of those are absolutely horrendous and true to the flavors they said they would be.

  • Carol G
    Aug 6, 2008 at 6:31 am

Some time back they put out some jelly bean type candy in very unusual flavors, some of them truly gross. I refused to taste the ones that would have been really yucky (after tasting some that were good, and really fulfilled what they said about the flavor being true), but my grandchildren did–and were VERY sorry they had!

I just tasted one, from Dollar store, it says made in Brazil, but I forgot the name. It looked yummy, inside vanilla with choc. chips…so i bit it and spat it right out. I tasted like, no kidding, throw up…I couldn’t believe it. I had to put a spoon of honey in my mouth to kill the remaining taste. It was just beyond awful. I am still having goose bumps thinking about the flavor. UGHHHH

There was this one time, where my mom gave me something that looked like taffy, and I read the wrapper, and it said Armadillo Droppings. The worse part about it was that I actually ate it, but it didn’t taste like droppings, not that I know what that tastes like, I mean, come on!

I’m glad to be able to say I tried them, but I’ve also never gone back for more. Those chocolate Skittles look a lot better!

Brother in law lives in Germany and sends my kids chocolate eggs, milk choc on outside and white choco on the inside, then there is a capsule with a tiny tiny toy you assemble inside.
You can’t get them here in US I think because you aren’t allowed to put toys in food. But they are the coolest things, and taste better than any chocolate I’ve ever had.

A recipe I got from the paper for chocolate covered Easter egg candy had a typo. The coating called for 5 times as much paraffin as it is was supposed to. I had trouble getting the coating to stick, as it hept sliding off, but I finally got it together. It looked fine. But when we tasted it … let’s just say, this dessert got a new name. Lisa’s Chocolate Crayons.

The weirdest candy was the one my mother-in-law made.

    It was awful.

    She loved it.

It was almost like a nougat with nuts but it was squishy and it had absolutely no taste.

    Her main ingredient was cornstarch.

My son is a huge Harry Potter fan, so we’ve tried all the candy released with the movies that we could find. Jelly Belly released the Bertie Bots Every Flavor Beans with flavors such as Bacon, Dirt, Grass, Earwax and …Vomit! Once you have that last flavor, you probably won’t eat jelly beans again for a while! By the way, the flavors are very authentic! Thank you for the contest!
