Odwalla Bar: Choco-walla

by Heather on August 6th, 2007

odwalla bar

My friend Shawn Marie gave me a couple of chocolate Odwalla “Nourishing Food” bars to try out and review. I decided to try the “Choco-walla” first. It weighs 2.2 oz and says it’s made with fruit and whole cereal grains.

The bar was pretty dense and, as is my experience with health bars, doesn’t look terribly appetizing out of the package. The first bite into a health food bar is, in my opinion, the worst. I always expect it to be as sweet as a candybar and of course they never are. Instead they taste very… vitamin-y, but that’s the point. After that, though, I found it pretty tasty. The back says:

“Surrender to chocolate decadence! This sweet chocolate indulgence will satisfy your sweet tooth and nourish your body. We packed semi-sweet chocolate chips in a nutritious food bar and added dry roasted almonds to achieve chocolate perfection. An excellent source of antioxidants Beta Carotene, Vitamins C & E, you’ll want to add this beauty to your daily routine.”

I didn’t seem to find a whole lot of chocolate chips but they were a nice change of texture change when I did. The roasted almonds appear to have been ground up and mixed in because I didn’t come across anything resembling one.

I definitely wouldn’t mind having these a couple of mornings a week for breakfast!

I might just have to try one of these. Besides, chocolate for breakfast…that would be a great way to start out the day. A Cup of joe and a “candy” bar. Yum. :)

Most bars taste terrible. But I think the pictures of these look fairly appetizing. The ground almonds is a plus for me. Frankly, chewing in the wee morning hours is a little much. Although, I don’t like chocolate cereal (OH the horror! sorry) or other sweet stuff for breakfast so I’d more likely eat this bar for lunch.

if you haven’t already, give a try to Caramel Nut Brownie Luna Bars, they’re to die for.

I am ALWAYS looking for good health bars without too many calories…they can add up fast. The chocolate you can never get enuf of though…I’m going to try this one out and see what I think. Thanks for the info!

the chocolate chip peanut ones are WAY WAY better… i could eat up a whole bar in one BITE! the flavor is chocolate mostly with peanuts, not like a peanut with chocolate flecks on top. these choc-odwalla taste way too heavy and are too dense to eat all at once
