Chocolate Bytes: For the Love of Chocolate

More Fiber

Now you need to take the idea of chocolate as a health food really seriously. I’ve been telling you that dark chocolate is the healthy stuff, and that your regular milk chocolate bars, though tasty, really don’t have those health benefits. Now Hershey’s is trying to prove me wrong.

They have come out with a line of healthy chocolate bars which includes not only an Extra Dark Pure Dark Chocolate Bar, but two milk chocolate bars, the Antioxidant Milk Chocolate Bar and the Whole Bean Milk Chocolate Bar. All three varieties measure a higher antioxidant capacity than either a cup of green tea or a handful of almonds.

The Whole Bean variety is particularly enticing for me as I am trying to increase my fiber intake. High fiber diets are good for lowering cholestoral levels, can help with weight loss, and help prevent many disorders including diabetes, hemorrhoids, irritable bowel syndrome, and colorectal cancer. Besides, it is just a healthier way to eat.

Hershey’s Whole Bean Milk Chocolate Bar has about the same amount of calories as regular milk chocolate bars, but it contains 40% less sugar and only has as much caffeine as a cup of decaf. Add to that the 7 grams of fiber per 40 gram serving, and I’m sure this is a milk chocolate bar I need to try.
