Chocolate Bytes: For the Love of Chocolate

Make Anything Chocolate

by Cathy on March 19th, 2007

As I was whipping up a batch of chocolate chip cookies tonight, it occured to me that almost any baking recipe can be modified to turn it into a chocolate one.  For instance, tonight I ended up with double chocolate chip cookies while I’m sure the recipe was just called plain old chocolate chip cookies.  What’s the trick?  Simply add some cocoa powder to the dry ingredients.  I usually find that 1/3 cup cocoa is the right amount for a regular sized batch of anything.  I add it to cookie recipes that make two or three dozen cookies, or muffin recipes that make a dozen muffins.  You can play with the amount a bit until it ends up with the right taste and consistency.  Obviously, use this tidbit with discretion.  You’ll have to decide for yourself whether or not you really want to eat chocolate apple spice muffins or chocolate lemon bars.
