Is Chocolate Really An Aphrodisiac?

Okay everyone, listen up! For years chocolate has been given the label of aphrodisiac. Now I’m no scientist, but I’ll given you my take on this.
You see, chocolate has been thought of as an aphrodisiac because it is very high in phenylethylamine. Of course, you say, phenylethylamine! All right, smartie, what is phenylethylamine? It is a chemical found in the brain of someone when they are feeling great, or, when they are in love. I don’t even want to think about how scientists figured that out. So, somebody (I’m guessing someone male) figured that chocolate = phenylethylamine = feelings of love = sex. I know all the women are snickering now. Hang in there guys, I’ll explain it for you in a second.
The first problem with this theory is that scientists have found after people eat chocolate, the levels of phenylethylamine in their brain don’t increase. Therefore, the second part of the equation won’t happen. Eating chocolate won’t lead, at least physically, to feelings of love. The final problem is that feelings of love won’t necessarily lead to sex, but I’m not really going to enter further into that debate!
An aphrodisiac is defined as a drug or other agent that stimulates sexual desire. Is chocolate an aphrodisiac? Probably not, however there is more to this question than a straight forward, scientific answer. Think of it this way, if you buy, make, feed, or otherwise give your prospective lover some chocolate, it will likely make them feel good. This good feeling will extend to their thoughts towards you. It may even give them that “in love” type of feeling. And that could, maybe, possibly, lead to nudge nudge wink wink. It definitely won’t do any harm to try.
