Chocolate Skittles

My dear friends Alicia and SM sent me a goodie box not too long ago and included a package of Chocolate Skittles! When they first told me they had spotted them I kept an eye out but they haven’t made it here yet, so they picked one up for me. Chocolate Skittles were released last year and are supposedly a permanent product. We’ll see!

They come in the standard-size Skittles package, only in brown, and weighs two ounces. The flavors are listed on the package as (left to right) Vanilla, S’mores, Chocolate Caramel, Chocolate Pudding, and Brownie Batter. I fail to see what vanilla is doing in a bag of chocolate, but moving on!

The colors were very appealing to me but I was wary to try these. I love the regular fruity Skittles and can’t imagine how they’d transform that into chocolate flavors.

Vanilla: I liked this one a lot but I’d imagine it’s hard to mess up vanilla. Very sweet. Like I said, not sure why it’s in a package of chocolate (though to be fair it does say “Chocolate Mix”) but I’ll live since it’s probably my favorite of the bunch.

S’mores: Not crazy about this one - it almost has a very light chemical taste to it though I can see what they were going for. Not very chocolatey at all.

Chocolate Caramel: All I taste is caramel, which while not unpleasant doesn’t do justice to having chocolate in its name.

Chocolate Pudding: I had a really hard time telling this and the Brownie Batter apart. In fact, when I first dumped the bag out I thought they’d neglected the Chocolate Pudding in mine but found this one has a slight purple hue to it. Anyway, I didn’t like this one much at all - tastes like a fakey chocolate

Brownie Batter: A little better than the Chocolate Pudding. It actually reminds me of a grainy Tootsie Roll.

Overall I wasn’t very impressed but I don’t care much for chocolate flavoring. The kids liked them, though!

“the kids liked them though” is the closest thing to a positive review I’ve seen for these yet.

(Though the photos do look tasty!)

Hi Cybele! I’m so glad I’m not alone in my dissatisfaction with them. I had such high hopes. Ah well!

I actually kind of liked them. Maybe it’s because of the inevitable comparison to actual skittles which I don’t like. I also had trouble with the pudding and brownie batter, but I did enjoy them.

I finally found some of those wild cherry M & Ms, and also Mint Crisp ones (yummy) at M & M world, but no raspberry. I’m actually thinking of doing a little mini review of them myself. ;-)

Oh, and the Hershey store didn’t have the cheesecake kisses. That’s right, the NY/Times Square Hershey store didn’t have the NY cheesecake kisses. bah!
