Chocolate Review: Patric Chocolate

This is such a hard job sometimes, what with people wanting to send delicious chocolate for me to try out and then review. (Yes, I’m being very tongue-in-cheek!)
I was recently sent a bar of Patric Chocolate from Alan McClure, proprietor of the company. It’s a micro-batch bar of dark chocolate (70% cacao minimum) from the Madagascar Sambirano Valley. This 1.75 oz bar was packaged attractively in a thin cardboard box and wrapped in gold foil. The box describes the bar as “Rich and inviting, with Notes of Luscious Citrus, Red Wine and Berries.”

I tasted every one of these in this tangy, smooth bar. Immediately after the first bite you’re flooded with fruity chocolate - there was hardly any bitterness which I found very enjoyable.
There was a definite hint of the wine mentioned as well and though I’m not any kind of wine expert nor a huge fan I found it very yummy. I really didn’t taste a lot of citrus, though - the majority of tang and flavor is definitely fruity hints of berries and wine. This is extraordinary to me as the only ingredients used are the cacao beans and pure cane sugar.
I highly recommend this bar and think Alan has done a truly fantastic job, and I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for possible future products. I wish him and the company (which is only a year old!) all the best!
Bars can be purchased via the Patric Chocolate online store.

It’s such pretty looking chocolate too.
Dammit, now I’m craving chocolate and I don’t think I have any at all. Argh.
